This tutorial is designed to help you use the Mergent Online database to find information about public companies in the US and internationally.  Advance through the tutorial using the arrows at the bottom of the box. Perform tasks using the pop up webpage on the right.

Choose the Mergent Online database from the A-Z Database links from the Libraries Tab> Research Tools> Databases link in Pipeline. Mergent Online opens to a Basic Search page. You can choose to search with a Company name or stock market symbol, in the box on the left. On the right side box you can search by classification using SIC code or NAICS code. Choose the index, country and exchange. Pick a company to search and enter it into the Company Search box on the left.

Choose your company from the list display. You will be brought to an initial search screen with key information about the company; including contact information, website address, executive information, pricing summary, key financials and company news. Note: you can start here and later move to the tabs and subtabs above for higher level information.

The Highlights tab gives financial statements from companies latest reports, including income statements, financial ratios, asset and debt, and much more.

The History tab provides a timeline of company financials.

The Company Financials tab provides a drop down list to select the amounts or quarters, balance sheet as well as years or quarters. You can find debt and asset management on this page. Be sure to hit the refresh button.

The Filings tab provides reports filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission including the most current, which can be viewed in a variety of different formats including PDF.

The Reports tab works similarly. It provides Annual Reports which give important information about companies.

The Industry Reports tab provides a way to search for companies in a select geographic area, industry within a date range to discover trends and leading companies for industry and outlooks for the future.

The Competitors tab is very useful for surveying the industry and creating SWOT reports.

You can use the Report Builder tab to save and export company information in a choice of formats
