---------- Using Call Numbers to Find Books

A call number is a unique identification number used for locating a book on a library's shelves--the book's "address". The call number will usually be printed on a label on the spine or the front cover of a book.

The Hawaii Pacific University libraries uses the Library of Congress (LC) Classification System to assign call numbers to books. Call numbers in this system use a combination of location codes, letters, and numbers to help you locate a book.

Look at the following examples of call numbers for the title "Reef and shore fishes of the Hawaiian Islands".
